Muggy Meter ("the app") is made by Kevin Cooper ("I", "me"). This policy covers the Muggy Meter iPhone app and the website at https://muggymeter.app. It explains what information the app uses, where it goes, and the choices you have.
If you allow it, the app reads your device's location while you are using it. It never runs in the background. It uses the location to look up the current dew point, the forecast, UV, pollen, radar and the name of your area.
To do that, your coordinates are sent to the services in the next section. Some requests go straight from your device. Others pass through the app's own server, which forwards them and does not keep them.
If you decline location access, the app shows a default city instead. You can search for any place by name, and you can change location access at any time in your device's Settings.
When you type a place name, the text is sent to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service to find it.
The following is saved on your device and is never sent to me:
Deleting the app removes all of it.
If you turn on Muggy alerts, the app schedules notifications on your device from the forecast it last downloaded. No server is involved, and no push token is collected. You can turn alerts off in the app or in Settings.
Like any internet service, the servers that answer the app's requests receive your IP address and the request itself (which, for weather lookups, includes coordinates). The app's server is hosted by Vercel, which keeps short-lived request logs for operating and securing the service. I do not use these logs to identify or profile anyone.
Each service below has its own privacy policy.
| Service | What it receives | Why |
|---|---|---|
| U.S. National Weather Service (api.weather.gov) | Coordinates | Live station readings and forecast |
| meteoblue (via the app's server) | Coordinates | Hourly forecast |
| Google Maps Platform Pollen API (via the app's server) | Coordinates, rounded to about 100 m | Pollen levels |
| currentuvindex.com | Coordinates | UV index |
| OpenStreetMap Nominatim | Coordinates, or the place name you typed | The name of your area, and place search |
| OpenStreetMap Overpass and its mirror servers (via the app's server) | Coordinates, rounded to about 1 km | Whether a beach or trail is nearby |
| RainViewer | Map tile positions near you | Radar map |

Premium subscriptions are sold through Apple's App Store. Apple handles payment, and I never receive your card details. Subscription status is managed by RevenueCat, which receives an anonymous app user ID and your purchase records from Apple.
The app is not directed to children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Because I do not keep personal information on my own systems, there is no account or stored profile to access or delete. Contact me with any question about your data.
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new effective date.
